Research Ethics Review System for Developing Robots

Abstract

This paper proposes the establishment of an ethical review system specifically designed for robotics, with a particular focus on social robots that interact with human beings. Such a system is necessary because social robots can directly influence people and their daily lives. Drawing inspiration from the ethical review frameworks used in clinical medical research, this study explores how to develop a practical and meaningful system tailored to robotics. The proposed system would evaluate each robot from an ELSI (Ethical, Legal and Social Issues) perspective prior to its introduction into society.
