Smart fluids whose rheological properties are controlled by externally applied magnetic field are known as magneto-rheological fluids (MR fluids). MR fluids are actively and widely used for various fields such as automotive industry, civil environment, and welfare devices. This article is a review of development of MR fluids and its research history.
