Abstract

In the purpose of environmental conservation and energy saving, demands for high torque and high energy density drive motors at low speed are increasing, and vernier motors utilizing magnetic gear effect are attracting many attentions. In this paper, the optimal winding methods for a stator module type vernier motor is clarified by using the finite element analysis for several models with different winding schemes in the same module structure. The results show that when two U-shaped cut cores next to each other are wound with the concentrated winding in two slots, the 5th harmonic component increases due to the splitting of the fundamental flux into two-flux paths. This module is effective in vernier motors that rotate using the harmonic flux. Furthermore, a new vernier motor applied this stator-module, which has the optimal winding methods is proposed and its characteristics are presented.
