Abstract

We are studying the undersea wireless power transfer to undersea probes. One of the problems of the undersea wireless power transfer is that the transmission efficiency decreases due to the misalignment of the receiving coil caused by the tidal currents. By bending the spiral coil used as the receiving coil, the magnetic fluxes, which does not interlink the transmitting and the receiving coil, can link the coils magnetically. The increase of the interlinked fluxes suppresses the decrease in transmission efficiency in case of misalignment. The transmission efficiency using a bent coil is compared with that using a flat coil due to lateral misalignment and angular misalignment of the receiving coil by the finite element simulation software, Femtet. The results show the quantitative decrease in transmission efficiency by the misalignment, and the relatively stable transmission and high transmission efficiency is achieved when the bent coil is used as the receiving coil. In the simulation conditions, the best efficiency is obtained by the 5-degree bend angle receiving coil.
