Abstract

Diabetes, one of lifestyle-related diseases, affects more than 500 million people worldwide and is a major problem. Diabetic foot ulcers are foot lesions that develop in patients with diabetic neuropathy and account for 84 % of all lower extremity amputations in diabetic patients. It has been reported that DFU is caused by abnormal vertical and horizontal foot pressure, and intentional gait changes by gait analysis are necessary to reduce the foot pressure. Therefore, gait analysis using vertical and horizontal foot pressure distribution measurement is important for managing DFU. However, no system has been established to simultaneously measure foot pressure distribution in the vertical and horizontal directions. In this study, we investigated, prototyped, and evaluated a three-axis force-sense inductive sensor for the gait analysis application of diabetic patients.
