Abstract

 In recent years, with the increasing electrification of automobiles, highly efficient traction motors have been actively developed. We focus on a variable flux motor with a draw-out mechanism. In this paper, we propose a new structure to increase the efficiency of variable flux motors with a draw-out mechanism. We design a new structure suitable for both low-speed and high-speed operations by combining rotor cores with different geometries and torque constants. We compared our new model with a conventional inner permanent magnet synchronous motor in terms of efficiency and variable flux ratio. We found that our new rotor structure can be used in a draw-out variable flux motor to achieve high efficiency in both low-speed and high-speed ranges. We also confirmed that the combining rotor with different torque constants increases the variable flux ratio.
