Abstract

This paper describes a new shape of an aluminum ring that can be suspended magnetically by the AC ampere maglev method. This method uses a first AC magnetomotive source and a second AC magnetomotive source with the same frequency and appropriate phase difference. The magnetic flux from these sources acts on a highly conducting object to generate an electromagnetic force. This method allows a specific object (a single aluminum (Al) ring) to be pulled up vertically against gravity. However, so far, this method has not been able to stabilize the object passively in all directions. This paper's newly proposed conducting object is a squirrel-cage shape Al ring. By three-dimensional electromagnetic field analysis, we investigate the possibility of a completely passive stabilized magnetic suspension for the proposed Al ring.
