Abstract
Generally, the turbo-charged engine has a time delay of boost pressure rising, but there is not a turbo lag in the mechanical supercharged engine. A mechanical supercharger was attached on a modern diesel engine that met with new long-term emission regulation of Japan. Supercharged characteristics were improved at transient operation and at low-speed torque in supercharged diesel engine. And also the higher EGR rate was possible to use at transient operation and the emissions were improved. This paper describes merits and demerits about the application of the mechanical supercharge device to the diesel engine.
