Abstract
The aim of this study is to improve the heat transfer performance of EGR Cooler. Since EGR Cooler performance is deteriorated by EGR deposits through a long time operation, it is difficult to recirculate EGR gas of desired temperature and quantity to the intake side. Then deterioration of the heat transfer performance with EGR deposits has to be analyzed. We had reported an approach using a gas analysis for measurement of EGR deposits. The proposed method could measure the mass of EGR deposits and could figure out the composition of EGR deposits. As the next step of this research work, an engine bench test system that could concurrently evaluate heat transfer performance was prepared. EGR deposits measurement could show the relation between EGR deposits and heat transfer performance of EGR Cooler. Through the experiments of various EGR Coolers like multi tube type and plate-fin type, ita was found that heat transfer performance deterioration was uniquely caused by heat-insulating layer of EGR deposits. However characteristics of heat-insulating layer were different with exhaust gas emissions that was cooled down by EGR Cooler.
