Abstract

A human finite element model for low speed rear-end impact analysis was developed. This model can reconstruct not only whole body motion but cervical vertebral motion to investigate intervertebral deformation based on the hyposis that neck pain is evoked by local strain on the intervertebral soft tissue caused by hyper translation and rotation of cervical vertebrae. The human model was validated with the published rear impact test data using Post Mortem Human Subjects (PMHS) and the model response showed good agreement with the PMHS response.
