Abstract
This paper examines effectiveness of representing fuel consumption information for improving fuel economy and investigates its influence on performance and situation awareness of driver. An experiment has been conducted to compare two type of indicators: (1) instantaneous fuel consumption meter and (2) average consumption meter. The result shows that the fuel consumption rate was improved when a driver used instantaneous or average fuel consumption meter while the driver's situation awareness was degraded by the use of the instantaneous fuel consumption meter.
