Abstract

The mechanical property of magnesium product after cast-forging and T6 heat treatment decreases due to defects or porosities caused from gas inclusion at molding the preform. Cast-forge process for magnesium parts has been studied as a manufacturing process to obtain higher strength magnesium structural member. Semi-solid injection molding has been applied to this cast-forge process to fabricate the better forgeable preform. Effect of the amount of porosity in the preform on forgeablity and mechanical property has been investigated. As a result, the manufacturing process condition was found for obtaining the high quality material.
