Abstract
This paper presents an application of the quality variation control process for mitigating shift shock. The first and reverse gear ratio of a newly developed 7-speeed automatic transmission were reduced to a lower level to achieve high power performance and outstanding fuel economy. That made it necessary to improve the unit′s performance potential with respect to shift shock. We have developed a Functional Digital Vehicle (FDV) simulation system that incorporates a full-vehicle simulation model of all vehicle systems and automated calculation capabilities. The quality variation control process and FDV were used to reduce shift shock in the new automatic transmission.
