Abstract

In recent years, smartphones have increasingly been used to offer assistance to drivers. However, safety problems may arise from certain smartphone characteristics such as their small screens and touch input systems. In this study, experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of operating an information device on drivers’ behavior while driving on a curved course. Two experiments were conducted. In one, a visual task was tested, and in the other, a verbal task was tested. The variance in the steering wheel angle was shown to track the task level.
