The parameters of a controller were determined by means of many iterative evaluation using a settling time and an over shoot percentage of the time response of a closed loop system. In order to provide the controller parameter efficiently, a new design method was proposed to satisfy the given settling time and overshoot using a characteristic specification of a second order time lag system. This paper investigated the application of the method to the engine speed control system. Though the target system was a relative first order time rag system, experimental results show expected performances by compensating a proper manners.
