Abstract
A lateral torque vectoring differential (TVD) enhances the vehicle cornering performance by making the torque difference between the right and left wheels of a vehicle. This paper describes a two-motor-torque difference amplification mechanism which is suitable for a TVD of electric powered vehicles. All planetary gear drives, from which a TVD with torque difference amplification mechanism is constructed, are shown by using velocity diagram analysis. After the evaluation of each TVD’s characteristics, the most suitable construction of the TVD for its light-weightiness and compactness is investigated.
