Abstract
The purpose of this study is to elucidate the seizure mechanism of the polymer overlay sliding bearing material. Five kinds of wear tests from running-in to seizure were performed and wear surfaces of the bearings were observed with an SEM/EDX and laser microscope in detail. As a result, the base material of aluminum alloy has been exposed by abrasive wear and shear fracture of the overlay and/or the interface between aluminum alloy and overlay. And the seizure occurs when temperature rapidly rises due to adhesion between shaft material and aluminum alloy.
