Abstract
The "statistical tire model" method, which is used for performance design in the early stages of vehicle development, was applied on estimation of the rolling resistance of tires. The influence of tire size on RRC has been identified quantitatively by analyzing measured rolling resistance of tires that have variation in both its sizes and inflation pressures yet that have the same structure and rubber compound. As a result, a model with good precision was obtained that can estimate the increase / decrease of the rolling resistance with respect to the reference tire if the tire size and its inflation pressure were given. By using the proposed statistical tire model, the quantitative requirement for size selection will be able to be proposed at the initial stage of development, and as a result accuracy of initial design would be enhanced.
