Abstract
The ignition device with dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) may realize volumetric ignition without electrode erosion. A DBD ignition device has been manufactured for achieving the volumetric ignition. The characteristics of DBD ignition under elevated pressure condition in a constant volume combustion chamber was evaluated experimentally. Results show that DBD enables volumetric ignition at more than a certain pressure, and the threshold pressure increases as the excess air ratio increases. Furthermore, the images taken by high-speed camera suggested that reducing the electrode heat loss can improve lean limit of DBD ignition.
