Abstract
A thick hydrogen-free diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated piston ring was developed for stainless steel sprayed bores. By applying the filtered vacuum arc method, the thick DLC and low hardness were achieved with less droplets, which solves both the adhesive wear by eliminating the chromium nitride coating and the abrasive wear by improving the DLC deformation ability.
