A remote monitoring system with digital radio communication for tractor works was developed and tested to carry out of measurering tractor's working condition operated in fields. A handheld computer which was mounted on the tractor was used for processing measured data and for controlling digital data communication. The measured data which were received by a radio receiver of the station located in the outside of field were calculated and analyzed immediately. Thereafter, the results were displayed on a monitor CRT connected to personal computer. To select the items to be measured, to set the sampling period and the transmitting interval, and to start and to stop the measurement, the several commands were sent from the monitor station to the tractor station and its measuring system was controlled by the handheld computer on the tractor. The digital data communication in packet radio was operated with F2 radio wave mode and 1200 in baud rate between stations. AX. 25 was used as the packet radio protocol.
