Abstract

The concept of the optimization of tractor engine performance was proposed, and an experimental tractor was developed for a multipurpose control system in the previous paper. In this paper, the optimal fuel efficiency control which needs a compound control of engine and transmission was discussed, and a computer program was developed.
The transient characteristics of the control system was examined through two kinds of field tests of pulling a small riding tractor on asphalt road and drawing a subsoiler in paddy fields, and it was proved that the control system of this research was practical.
Furthermore, the fuel consumption characteristics of popular tractors in the market were analyzed, and the optimal fuel efficiency control was estimated for fuel saving.
