Asparagus calli were exposed to various uniform electric field intensities varied to 100, 150, 200 and 250kV/m. The calli were exposed during each culture period of initial stage, intermittence and succession. The next experiment was carried out with various treatment days and the successive treatmant, and the effects of electric field on the calli multiplication were evaluated.
For the next exposure, the calli multiplications were almost larger than control, independent of the exposure days and field intensity. The exposed calli generally showed larger multiplication and lower percentage of dry matter than control. It appears that reasons were due to the efects of electric field on the suction force of solution by the calli or on the physical and chemical properties of culture medium.
