Abstract

The mass and the distribution of wear on tines were discussed in part 1 of this study. In this paper, the influence of tine parameters, such as hardness, shapes, coating materials, coating locations and shank types, on tine wear are investigated to determine the tine which will give the minimum abrasive wear. The influence of spring shank and rigid shank on the tine wear are also examined. The experimental results showed that coating materials and shank types have a great effect on tine wear resistance. The coating position and tine hardness also had effects on the wear resistance of S-type spring shank tine. The wear resistance of the tine which is thickly coated (1mm) with Tungsten Carbide on the front surface is two times higher than that of the steel tine normally used in Japan.
