A process of image analysis was studied to detect a crop area from the field images and to identify the camera position toward the crop row. The images were clearly divided into the crop area and other area by setting the threshold in the hue-intensity plane. To detect the edge pixels in the binary images, a 20×20-pixel sized frame by which the contrast of the edge could be measured irrespective of the slope was used. From the edge pixels known to be on those boundary between the furrow and the crop rows at the right and left sides, two lines were gotten at the proper position.
