The utility tests of the prototype automatic harvester and curing tools were carried out in flue-cured tabacco producing districts in 1992, 1993 and 1994. The harvester type I was remodeled into type II during the tests to solve mechanical problems and to improve handling utilities. The improved machine was tested to confirm the required power and performance of conveyer units, and harvesting accuracy. As the results, the required power and the harvesting accuracy of the new machine were similar to those of the old one. The shape of resister on the conveyer belts and the gap between roller and belt in the leaf convey units were adjusted to decrease leaf damage.
