Abstract
Three-compartment model was proposed to explain the water shift within a body, and the following results were obtained. (1) Water shift among these compartments depends on the total osmolarity of dialysate. (2) After dialysis the water shift is completed in about 30 minutes with a slight amount of water. (3) Theoretical results agree well with clinical data. If the above model is simplyfied by using dimens ionless equations, the optimum Na+ concentration of dialysate may be easily determined by the removed amount of Na+.
