Abstract
In an attempt to elucidate the mechanism of non-anticoagulant hemodialysis (NAHD) by EVAL HFAK (KF101), electron microscopic observation with freeze replica method has been carried out for EVAL membranes used in NAHD as compared for Cuprophan HF membranes used in regular heparinized dialysis. It was observed that the behavior of blood protein deposition and penetration into membrane was greatly different from each other. With EVAL membrane, protein layer on the membrane surface was too thin to observe, but considerable protein penetration was observed. However, with Cuprophan HF membrane, there was thick layer, which seemed to consist of two different components. It may be suggested that the observed difference in blood protein deposition onto membranes is closely associated with NAHD by EVAL dialyzer.
