Abstract
Basic researches, in addition to experience of clinical trials, of total knee prosthesis is very important. We performed motion analysis of the knee joint in 14 fresh cadaveric knees. The femoral condyles rotated on the tibia externally by average 20° in 0° to 120° of flexion. Forces at the interface between tibial component and bone were analysed in 10 fresh cadaveric knees. Normal and shear force and moment at the interface markedly increased after incision of the posterior cruciate ligament. Importance of the retention of the posterior cruciate ligament was confirmed from the results.
