Abstract
The biocompatibility of E-PTFE patch was examined clinicaly. The following indices were examined before, just after and after operation until 28th postoperative day: duration of fever, the count of WBC, hemogram, ESR, CRP, immunogloblin and complement. Fiftyfour patients were divided into 3 groups; Group A non-prothesis (n=26), Group B patch closure with E-PTFE patch (n=21), Group C prothetic valve replacement (n=7). 1) No infection in this E-PTFE patch was recognized in this series. 2) No remarkable changes were recognized between Group A and Group. B in indices mentioned above, in the period of this investigation. 3) Group C showed significant difference from Group A in any indices except the count of WBC and the segmentocyte ratio. This study indicated that the clinical use of E-PTFE patch resulted in lower infection rates and little foreign body reaction.
