Abstract
Seventy-nine Omniscience(O-S) or Omnicarbon(O-C) valve prostheses were implanted in 74 patients between 1981 and 1991, provided a total of 128 years of observation (O-S group) and of 134 years (O-C group). The long-term survival, post-operative complications, cardiac function before and after operation and the function of the prostheses were discussed. The linearized rate of the valve related complications was 3.14%/Pt.y in the O-S group and 2.26%/Pt.y in the O-C group. The majority of the patients belonged to functional class I or II postoperatively, maintaining the improvement of functional class as compared to the preoperative level. The maximum opening angle of the O-C valve was 70.1±7.1° at the aortic position and 68.0±7.1° at the mitral position. These findings suggests that both the O-S and O-C valves are favorable in the clinical use.
