Abstract
We clinically evaluated the gas transfer capacity and the durability of a newly developed membrane oxygenator “MENOX, AL-2000”. The oxygenator was set in a circuit for veno-arterial bypass in 3 patients. No serum leakage was seen and no significant deterioration of gas transfer performance was observed up to 211 hours. Moderate amount of fibrin clot was observed mainly at the inlet portion although activated clotting time was maintained at approximately 200 seconds under anticoagulation therapy using with heparin and nafamostat. In conclusion, MENOX, AL-2000 is a suitable oxygenator for long-term VA bypass support.
