Abstract
Membrane oxygenator UNIVOX is characterized by low pressure drop. We had experimental studies of pulsatile extracorporeal circulation applied this oxygenator by using one pump. The maxmum pressure drop of this oxy-genator was 40mmHg at 3.0L/min, blood flow. The inlet peak pressure was changed from 180mmHg to 430mmHg accompanied by the base adjust 25% pulsatile blood flow 0.8 to 3.0L/min., and fur-ther from 215mmHg to 520mmHg by the base adjust 0% pulsatile blood flow 0.8 to 3.0L/min. Ter-minal pressure gradient changed from 100mmHg to 255mmHg at each maxmum flow. We applicated this system in five open heart operations and demonstrated the good pulsatile flows at the peripheral arteries in all. It was considered that effective one pump pulsatile extracorpo-real circulation system could be applicable by using membrane oxygenator UNIVOX.
