Abstract
The "KLM" membrane oxygenator, which was a prototype of newly developed membrane oxygenator "MENOX, " was clinically investigated. We used them for cardio-pulmonary bypass in 9 adult open heart surgeries. This oxygenator was excellent in size, with a low priming volume. The membrane, in which micropores are blind at the blood-contacting surface, prevents serum leakage, and has good gas-exchange performance. Using 100% O2, PO2, PCO2 were ranged in 440-730 mmNg, and 35-43 mmHg in all cases. We suppose KLM-M (0.8 m2 in membrane area) could be used in cases under 1.6m2 in BSA, and 4.01/min in perfusion rate.
