Abstract
The effects of capacitance of inlet side reservoir on the inflow characteristic of the pulsatile blood pump have been studied, employing lumped parameter model and mock circulation, to improve the inflow characteristic of the pulsatile blood pump system which has high inflow impedance.
Model analysis revealed that reservoir on the pump inlet side improved the inflow characteristic. Based on the results of the analysis, experimental verification was performed using mock circulation. Mock tests showed that installing a reservoir in the pump system increased the output flow rate up to twice of its normal value and decreased the amplitude of the cyclic variation of inflow velocity to 1/4 of usual driving condition.
Valuable information for the pump design has been obtained from these analysis.
