Abstract
The effectiveness of pulsatile flow during the cardiopulmonary bypass was well known.
However, IABP is not always used as early as it should because it is not part of the standard extracorporeal circulation setup, and it requires additional cutdown, an arterial graft and the retrograde insertion of a foreign body into the arterial tree.
We devised a compact pulsatile assist device which should be used in the cardiopulmonary bypass, particularly when the patient is in weaning from the CPB.
The detail of this device and its initial use in experimental CPB were described.
