We have designed a series of experiments to create animal model of cardiac failure, which is resumbled to the clinical one and to evaluate the effect of assisted circulation using this model. The following results were obtained:
1) In Jogs, experimental production of myocardial burn was tried utilizing a specially designed electrode under the various conditions of DC and AC electricity. However, although the electrocardiographic and enzym studies revealed similar pattern to myocardial infarction, hemodynamically no typical failure could obtained.
2) Transapical insertion of balloon catheters with various capacities was made in calves to create outflow obstruction of the left ventricle. We could demonstrate a consistent relationship between the degree of stenosis and the course of experimental cardiac failure as followed: a) typical acute cardiac failure, b) chronic cardiac failure with continued for about one week and followed by sudden deterioration and c) chronic cardiac failure persisted over one week. Further, this model was proved to be sufficiently useful for experimental evaluation of transapical left ventricular bypass.
