Abstract
One of the attractive ways to design compact oxygenators with high gas transfer performance, is to weave tubings tightly. We already showed the augmentation effect of gas transfer in curved tubes wound in woven patterns. In this study gas transfer performance in water and blood were investigated for prototype unit having twelve tubes with large curvature ratio, which is the ratio of radius of curvature to that of tube, in the curved portion. The augmentation effect similar to that of helical coils were obtained, and the effect of curvature ratio turned out to be minor. Furthermore the preliminary data was obtained for pulsatile flow which was enable to change the secondary flow pattern in the curved tube.
