A kinetic study of hydriding and dehydriding reaction of Ti-Cr and LaNi5 alloys was performed in order to develop environmentally friendly material for metal hydride based refrigerators. The hydrogen absorption and desorption rates in plateau regions of the Ti-Cr-H system were measured volumetrically using a Sieverts' type apparatus. Compared with LaNi5, a fast activation and higher reaction rates were found for the Ti-Cr alloy even at 0°C.
