 An Innovative Virtual Reality Training System (iVRTS) was developed with the aim of creating practical mental training programs (Endo et al., 2024; Fukami et al., 2025). The purpose of this study was to report the stress responses exhibited by gymnasts who participated in mental training using this system at the competition venue. Salivary α-amylase activity (sAA) was reported for six male gymnasts who competed in the All Japan Intercollegiate Artistic Gymnastics Championships and had experienced mental training with iVRTS. sAA levels were measured at the actual competition venue on the first and second days of the event. On the first day, sAA levels were high for the athletes (four individuals) who competed in the team competition, indicating that these athletes were experiencing a stress response at this time. On the second day, sAA levels decreased. These data may serve as preliminary information for future evaluations of this system.
