Abstract
Barreling is useful in machining for deburring, rounding, and improvement of the finished surfaces of steel products, nonferrous metals, plastics, and jewels. In addition, barreling is labor-saving in machining and is relatively unconstrained by the work shape. However, the machining process takes a long time. Here, increasing the efficiency of barreling by speeding up the centrifugal barrel method is discussed. A new high-speed centrifugal barrel machine can revolve its turret at speeds up to 1000 min-1, in contrast to the revolution speed of 250 min-1 for a standard centrifugal barrel machine. The new high-speed centrifugal barrel machine has an inclined barrel axis mechanism. The theoretical basis of revolving movement in the proposed method, experimental results, and suitable angle of the inclined barrel axis in the barreling process are described.
