Abstract
In this study, three types of magnet blocks with different magnet arrangement were used in a magnetic barrel machine. The distribution of magnetic flux density in the container was measured. The influence of the magnet block on the distribution of magnetic flux density was examined. The distribution of magnetic flux density was changed markedly with different magnet arrangements. To examine the finishing ability, finishing experiments were conducted using the new machine equipped with the three types of magnet block and a commercially available machine. The distribution of magnetic flux density in the container was shown to markedly affect the finishing ability of the magnetic barrel machine. The magnet block, mounted with stronger magnets and alternating poles, produced the strongest magnetic flux density and the greatest finishing ability.
