Abstract
Superfinishing is usually used for finishing of cylindrical surfaces, in which high-quality surfaces can be obtained easily and quickly. It is considered that superfinishing may be applicable to surface finishing of curved and flat surfaces of molds. This study was performed to develop a rotation/revolution type superfinishing tool for application to the surface finishing of molds. In this superfinishing tool, the kinetic locus of the grinding wheel and/or abrasive grain can be changed as required by the rotation speed and revolution speed of the grinding wheel. The experimental results clarified that the critical pressure in the finishing process can be decreased by increasing the rotation-to-revolution speed ratio.
