Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the number and the characteristics of injuries in high school rugby union team supported by a certified athletic trainer. It was evaluated for two years in one high school team, and the number of players was 38 males in 2018, and 38 males in 2019. An athletic trainer monitored players regarding sports related injuries. An orthopedist diagnosed the injuries. In this investigation, the injuries which took over 60 days to return to play were defined as severe injury. There were 22 injuries in total. The number of severe injuries were 10. With the prevention program and reconditioning program, the number of concussions was 0, and recurrent injuries was 2 (9.1% by all injuries) which were shared with players, the head coach, the orthopedist, and the athletic trainer. More investigations of injuries in high school team and preventing the injury will be necessary for the high school students.
