Existence of Cysteic Acid and Taurine in Sporulating Cells of Bacillus subtilis NRRL B558

Abstract

Sporulating cells of Bacillus subtilis NRRL B558 were examined for the existence of cysteic acid and taurine. The analysis of cysteic acid and taurine was performed by high pressure liquid chromatography to determine the contents of both substances in the cells.
The contents of cysteic acid and taurine in the cells increased during sporulation and reached a maximum 4 hours after the end of exponential growth (t₄). Changes in the content of taurine in the cells were not so remarkable as those in the content of cysteic acid.
