Abstract

On the cover

Purple corn with a high anthocyanin content is a promising genetic resource due to the possibility of mitigating oxidative stress, which reduces milk production in dairy cows. The Peruvian cultivar ‘JC072A’ (left) is one of purple corn and shows many organs with anthocyanin pigmentation such as leaf sheath (upper center), bract leaf (upper center), plant ear (upper center and right), grain and cob (lower center). The genetic information about anthocyanin pigmentation in JC072A assists maize breeders in developing the molecular markers for the effective breeding of F1 hybrids of purple corn (This issue, p. 582–586).
