‘Shine Muscat’ is an elite table grape cultivar. Recently, the infringement of breeders’ rights in various fruits has become a serious problem. A LAMP-mediated rapid, simple and cost-effective cultivar identification method for ‘Shine Muscat’ was developed. With this method, the entire detection process, including sample preparation and LAMP reaction, was completed within one and a half hours. A representative result for LAMP products detection using DNA chromatography is presented. UFGT is an endogenous sequence for grape cultivars, and VINE1-Cl160 is a specific retrotransposon insertion site for ‘Shine Muscat’ (This issue, p. 200–209).
