Abstract
Studies were made on the variation of fertility with generations F2 to F9 in the seven lines of the artificially raised amphidiploid "Nori-Asa" (Abelmoschus glutino-textilis). The mean fertility was 27.30 seeds per pod, and the pooled variance of fertility between pods in each individual and the coefficient of variation were 109.96, lO.5 and 38.5%, respectively. With the exception of the line No.8, the fertility change with the lapse of generation could be expressed by the polynominal of two degrees y=16.86+6.49x-0.69x2 where x denotes the ordinal number of generation. It was made clear that the fertility of the artificially raised amphidiploid was considered to be affected by the genes which are concerned with fertility and also by the relationship between genome and plasm.
