Abstract
When the embryos excised from presoaked seeds of barley were shaking cultured in ALMESTRAND'S or MURASHIGE and SKOOG'S mineral solution enriched with nutrients, turbidity of the suspension increased rapidly with incubation time. After the concentration by centrifuging, cell suspension were transfcrred into new media in L-tubes which were shaken. The increase in turbidity was rapid and tended to follow a simple course as in a population of microorganisms. A direct proportionality between turbidity and suspended cells was given in cultures of callusing embryos and of a cell suspension.
