Nine cultivars of Zephyranthes and Habranthus were examined for the chromosome numbers, karyotypes, and morphological as well as physiological characteristics to clear up their confused taxonomic situations reported by the previous investigators. Based upon the common genome x=6, there was shown the presence of polyploid series (2n=12, 18 and 24 in Habranthus, 2n=36 and 48 in Zephyranthes), including hyperhexaploid (2n=36+2) Zepharanthes. Direction of their phylogenetic differentiation was discussed.
